The Power of the #Hashtag

In this generation, users are compelled to use the internet and will share just about anything that seems interesting or is currently trending. Whether their online use is for entertainment, news, or is business related, social media can be a great tool to reach out and connect you to other users that may not normally be within your network. While the internet and social media can help you expand and gain exposure to your business, a great way to expand even further than at a local level would be to use #hashtags.

Hashtags are words that are placed after a hash (#) or pound sign. These set of words are collected in order to group them under the specific topic the hashtag refers to. While it was originally made popular by Twitter, hashtags are still greatly used and accessible on platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Pinterest, and others.

By utilizing a tool like a hashtag, it can be an opportunity to reach a wider audience, especially when a certain topic or hashtag is trending. By posting something related to that trend and using hashtags, it will group you with others who are also discussing that subject. I know sometimes I find myself interested in a popular topic of discussion and click on the hashtags that online users post to see what other people are saying as well.

The example shown below is one the ways you can incorporate hashtags in your social media posts. By having these extra elements somewhere on our tweet, it allows us to appear in a spread of other tweets that are also related to #PromotionalProducts, #Wearables, and so on. Hashtags can be placed in the beginning, middle or end of your post, it all depends on how you want to tailor those words into your sentence(s).

There are so many tools out there that can help encourage your presence online, don't be afraid to stand out and use them!
